Description: Earthquakes are a predominant risk in the Western Balkans and a major one can have severe impacts in the efforts of the Western Balkans’ Governments for economic development and social wellbeing. This is the case Montenegro will face if a major earthquake hits in Boka Kotorska Bay affecting big part of the country. The overall objective of Balance is to carry out major emergency simulation exercise, in the context of the Union Civil Protection Mechanism, making it possible to respond to natural disasters and fight the consequences of it. Exercises will be organized as a combination of Table-Top Exercises and full-scale exercise, as a main event. The International Exercise also aims to implement the accepted standards for cross border cooperation in the area of Western Balkans. In addition, the exercise project will bring added value to the Institute of Hydrometeorology and Seismology (IHMS) of Montenegro by establishing through NOA the cooperation with ORFEUS and EIDA for the strong motion seismic waveform data.

Description: The main objective of this project was to fund the post-tsunami reconnaissance missions in selected Greek islands after the tsunami generated by the M7 Samos-Aegean earthquake. Quantitative field measurements of tsunami intensity and tsunami eyewitness accounts were collected in the islands of Samos, Chios, Ikaria, Fourni and Thimena.

Description: Security threats, whether physical or cyber-related, are an increasing concern for sensitive industrial plants and infrastructure. Current solutions are fragmented and cannot address tailored and integrated activities from both kinds of threats. InfraStress, with its 27 partners from 11 countries, will build on preceding research towards a Technology Readiness Level 7 solution that includes threat detection, situational awareness, input from end-users and evaluation activities, presented in user-friendly services. With its integrated customised solutions, InfraStress also hopes to help cultivate a culture of participation among all involved stakeholders, from the private and public sector to civil society and citizens.
