NATIONAL OBSERVATORY OF ATHENS

Portable Network

The G.I.’s portable network consists of seismographs which are temporarily installed in areas exhibiting significant seismic activity, aiming at better and more effective monitoring and analysis of seismic sequences. The installation of additional stations helps identify a larger number of small events with greater accuracy, and in doing so helps improve seismic hazard and risk assessment. A complete station consists of a seismometer, a digitizer, a router, a modem with sim card, a GPS antenna, a battery, a charger, a safety socket and of all necessary cables. The data of the temporary stations are transmitted in real time to a central server in the G.I.’s headquarters in Thiseion, and are taken into account in the solutions provided by the automatic earthquake monitoring system as well as the manual revisions by the analysts.
